PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

You may be new to the sport of bowls or you may have been playing for a number of years. Regardless, on behalf of the executive I greet you and wish you an enjoyable 2011-12 season.

Unfortunately our club, like so many bowling clubs in Christchurch, has suffered damage as a result of the earthquakes we have been experiencing since September of last year and as a result we and the other clubs have had to make adjustments to our programme. We have suffered damage to our greens and to our club house. This damage is being restored and we will open in September. A programme has been produced which will ensure our sport will continue. We may be without some greens for a period but we are hopeful of being back to normal soon after Opening Day.

Interclub competition this year will be late in starting and there may be considerable change to the format. Many clubs will not have a playing surface and this has created a problem for the Centre in compiling a programme.

It may be that we at Cashmere will be asked to share our facilities and host a club which has no green to play on. I know that should this happen, you will welcome those bowlers to our facilities.

Welcome to the new season; enjoy your bowls and good luck in all your competition events.

In closing I express our gratitude to Stu our green keeper, and Harry and the maintenance team who have worked so hard to restore our facilities. Thank you.

Brian Lawson.
